Lantern November 23, 2008 I was disapointed in this Lantern. Does not output much light, and the rechargable batteries had to be replaced as soon as I got it. They did not hold a charge.
totally Beautiful - Totally Useless November 16, 2008 This lantern looks GREAT in daylight -- just like the liquid fuel lanterns of yesteryear. the stainless steel is so shiny. The shape is so classic. Just don't expect to get much use out of it at night. For one thing, it takes three days of sunshine for one full charge that will give you several hours of use. (There IS a plug in charger, but even that takes about a day). And when you finally do get a full charge on the thing, it isn't bright enough to read by, even if you put the book right up at the edge of the lantern. It's kind of a joke in our house now. Whenever we're in a dimly lit situation, my wife trots out the HDC Solar Camp Lantern, flips it on, and we both laugh as we look for a good old fashioned flashlight.
Green & Bright, perfect replacement for your Coleman Lantern October 13, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First you'll be surprised at how little this things weighs when you pull it out of the box. Then you'll think, this isn't as hefty as I expected, did I get ripped off? Next, you'll see that all the weight is in the top and the durable plastic and aluminum base are perfectly designed to support and diffuse the LED light. You may still be sceptical, but you'll want to charge it up and try it out.
I took this think camping with me Labor Day Weekend 2008 instead of buying new wicks and propane for the Coleman lantern. I charged it via the power cord Thursday and packed it for the weekend. Full of pride at having selected a greener option I pulled it out at dusk and put it on the table about 10 ft from the campfire where we prepare our camp treats. The light was bright enough to prepare smores, mountain pies, hot dogs, etc. and lasted all through Friday night. Saturday, I put it out in the sun to charge and it was ready to go again Saturday. So no more expense buying propane and wicks, outstanding product!
Also convenient in the home, it was my reading lamp when Hurricane Ike knocked trees into the power lines here in the midwest.
Love and light July 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this light for a camping trip and it works absolutely fantastically! It is rechargeable by putting it outside and lights up so bright with it's LED bulb. No more batteries! I now have it as an outside patio light for gatherings until my next camping trip.
